After-School and Summer Enrichment

Virginia Ed Strategies partners with universities, community organizations, local schools, and other entities to develop and implement high-quality after-school and summer enrichment opportunities for K-12 students. We strive to leverage particular assets in each community such as state parks, YMCAs, wildlife conservation areas, and others to help children gain an appreciation of the world in which they live while also continuing their learning beyond the regular school day. These programs also give high school and college students the opportunity to volunteer or gain valuable work experience. Please note, we do not provide transportation for students to these opportunities.

Test Prep Sessions

In an effort to provide additional time on task and support for students preparing to take high-stakes assessments such as the Virginia Placement Test, the National Career Readiness Certificate assessment, and Advanced Placement exams, Virginia Ed Strategies collaborates with schools and community colleges to provide test prep sessions. Sessions are scheduled after school, in the evenings, on Saturdays, and even online via webinar and are taught by experienced educators who are dedicated to the success of students. Please note, we do not provide transportation for students to these events/training/sessions.

Educator Workshops

Educator workshops are shortened versions of Virginia Ed Strategies’ Teaching Institutes in that they may be one hour up to one day long and may be presented in a traditional face-to-face setting or via webinar. Workshops provide a broader overview of the topic being presented, and participants leave with specific strategies or tools to implement in their classrooms or school settings.

Virtual Coaching

We leverage the power of technology to facilitate coaching of individual and small groups of educators in reflective cycles of learning using video recordings of their classroom instruction, peer-to-peer feedback, and virtual face-to-face coaching. This approach empowers educators at all levels of experience to set personal goals for growth and see measured outcomes in a safe environment.

    Education Research and Evaluation

Virginia Ed Strategies pursues projects, initiatives, and activities to advance the field of K-12 education research, to deepen knowledge about what works best in reaching and teaching children, and to develop new, innovative best practices for implementation in K-12 settings. We also support our partners in designing methods for measuring outcomes and demonstrating evidence of program impact.

    Teaching Institutes

Virginia Ed Strategies provides customized 2-4 day “deep dive” professional development institutes to give extensive training on strategies, tools, and resources for educators to use throughout planning and delivery of deeper learning lessons, units, assessment, or other projects. Participants develop lessons, units and assessments that provide rich learning experiences for students and allow for application of academic and non-academic skills.
