Professional Learning by Choice Community (CHOICE)
Virginia Ed Strategies was awarded a FY2020 Education Innovation and Research (EIR) early-phase grant from the US Department of Education to develop the Professional Learning by Choice Community (CHOICE). This 5-year, $10.8M research and development project seeks to build the sustainable teacher effectiveness capacity of up to 1,600 secondary science, mathematics, computer science, and career and technical (CTE) teachers across the Commonwealth of Virginia through teacher-directed selection of professional learning experiences within a virtual professional learning community (PLC) comprised of multiple Communities of Practice (CoP).
Rural Math Excel Partnership
Virginia Ed Strategies received $2.7 million i3 Grant from the US Department of Education and began administering the grant in 2013. This initiative known as the Rural Math Excel Partnership or RMEP has allowed us to move forward with our STEM-H focused workforce development program partnering with six Southside school divisions, local business, and parents to help all students understand and successfully master math skills required for critically needed technician-level STEM-H jobs.
Rural Math Innovation Network
Funded by a $2.99 million Investing in Innovation (i3) grant from the U.S. Department of Education and matching funds from the private sector, Virginia Ed Strategies started the four-year Rural Math Innovation Network project on January 1, 2017. Pre-algebra and Algebra 1 teachers in 18 rural school divisions across Southside and Southwest Virginia will collaborate in a virtual network to create lessons that increase student motivation for mastery of math skills and concepts needed for pursuing STEM and health postsecondary technician programs and career credentials.
