The Strategies Xchange

Our team at Virginia Ed Strategies has made the difficult decision to cancel the Strategies Xchange conference planned for September 15 at JMU. Given the significant current and future impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on businesses, schools, and other stakeholder groups, we determined that it would be in the best interest of our organization and our partners to refocus event-planning efforts on immediate initiatives and programs that improve academic and career outcomes for Virginia’s students.

We hope to offer the Strategies Xchange again in 2021. In the meantime, follow our website and social media pages to stay abreast of our K12 work across Virginia.

Slide 1

"Collectively, your partnership and commitment will help to address one of our nation's most pressing problems. We all know what's at stake here. It's inexcusable that two million high-demand, high-skilled jobs are unfilled in this country, because employers can't find enough qualified workers. In a tough economy, our young people, our families, and our nation all deserve better – we have to help each other!"

Our first ever statewide conference – The Strategies Xchange: Where Business & Education Align – brought together over 170 employers, educators, government officials, and other stakeholders to begin the dialogue for increasing collaboration between schools and business in an effort to better prepare Virginia’s future workforce.

The theme for the 2nd Annual Strategies Xchange is “Ensuring Excellence in Virginia’s Future Workforce,” and we are excited to showcase the new partnerships and talent pipeline initiatives that were developed as a result of last year’s conference. Keynotes, panel discussions, and breakout sessions this year will focus on business-education collaborations that are positively impacting career awareness, career exploration, and career preparation throughout the K-12 years and beyond.

Attendees will gain valuable strategies and resources to ensure that businesses are able to take an active role in planning and implementing curriculum, instructional activities, work-based learning experiences, and/or collaborative community initiatives geared toward the common goal of strengthening the talent pipeline.

Our Location: James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA

Founded in 1908, James Madison University is a public university located in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley. JMU was recognized U.S. News & World Report as the #1 most innovative university in the south and is ranked as the Best College for Employment in Virginia as it has the highest post-graduation job levels of all Virginia colleges. JMU graduates are far more than merely educated. Members of a fellowship of doers, they know how to make things happen. They’ve honed their ability to think critically. They’ve learned the importance of a strong work ethic and have become committed to and skilled at collaborating with others. Diplomas in hand, they leave campus determined to live lives of meaning and pursue careers of purpose.

While attending our conference at JMU, we recommend you explore the surrounding town of Harrisonburg. Vibrant, modern and diverse, Harrisonburg boasts a happening atmosphere infused with a serious passion for local food and libations, cutting-edge arts and culture, and the historic roots that anchor it to the famous Shenandoah Valley landscape. Located along one of the main thoroughfares of America’s westward expansion and smack in the middle of some of the most spectacular mountain ranges and outdoor recreation spots in Virginia, Harrisonburg has evolved from an agricultural, cultural, and commercial hub during the 19th and 20th centuries to today’s artfully-restored, forward-thinking destination best known for its lively and distinct style.
